What is the real time frame and/or tests that can be conducted on the screws on a metal roof, before the screws need to be replaced. Everyone has an opinion.

If the screws loosen, it will become apparent visually. What I often hear from the field is screws have to be tightened after about 7 years and then replaced with a larger diameter screw about year 15.

They are #14 1-1/4. I was planning to purchase the same size product (I tested one screw and it seemed snug) but the person at the building supply store recommended using thicker and slightly longer screws this time. What is the best choice when replacing screws? Thanks.
