I have an old house my wife wants a front porch with a covering roof. The roof is tin and to get it high enough it will have to go on top of the existing roof how do I go about tieing the porch roof into the existing roof?

Normally there would be a transition flashing that goes up under the shingles and out on top of the metal. You will also need some sort of closure for the pans between the ribs on the metal roof. That will be based upon what type of metal roof you use. I would suggest talking to your metal supplier about closures and a transition flashing. They should be able to help you out. It is critical that your flashing be mounted high enough on the shingle roof that a positive pitch is maintained to the transition piece where it goes out over the ribs of your metal panels. You do not want to kick water uphill.
