The Project:
Smart architects and building professionals know that when it comes to curb appeal, the right roof can either make or break a stunning home design. That’s why for a new residential construction project in Lake Oswego, Oregon that recently won top honors in Roofers Coffee Shop’s metal roofing competition, metal was the perfect choice. The 3,000 square-foot main house along with a separate boat house, now have stylish yet strong rooftops that serve as the crowning touch for this incredible custom home project.
The Challenge:
Located on a lakefront, it was clear that this project needed to be designed thoughtfully to not only achieve great architectural style, but also to withstand the regions cold and wet seasons and increasingly long, hot, and dry summers. The homeowners were looking for peace of mind that the roof they selected could withstand the worst of whatever Mother Nature dished out for the long run, no matter what the season. All the beautiful roofline details for this project also proved to be a formidable challenge: custom radius, unique angles, steep pitch changes and transitions were planned with metal’s great style flexibility in mind.
Spotlight on Taylor Metal and Bliss Roofing, Inc.:
For this project, Taylor Metal Products’ Easy Lock panels in a Dark Bronze Kynar 500 painted finish was the selected material. The quality metal roofing and professional, experienced installation means the homeowners now have a roof that is as beautiful as it is tough, with greater durability and low maintenance performance benefits as compared to composition, shake or tile. In addition, the roof is a “cool roof” system, meaning it will reduce heat retention and lower energy costs in the summer.
Today’s top roofing experts are increasingly offering metal to customers as part of what they do, and the installer for this project, Bliss Roofing, is no exception. As Don Bliss, Owner of Bliss Roofing Inc., says,
“Metal roofing is one of the fastest growing segments of home improvement. It is extremely sought after and popular, achieving a look that is in style and providing the durability and long-lasting life homeowners are searching for. Metal roofing can easily accent different material options which makes it one of the most diverse roofing options out there. Changing with the times and training our employees to learn new styles and install methods is the reason why Bliss Roofing has been around for over 50 years. This metal roof represents how we have successfully evolved by keeping up with new trends, which makes me extremely proud as a business owner. Training the same employees to install shakes, then tile, then composition, then metal over a few decades, is very rewarding.”
