Hello!
I just purchased a house with a 40x24 pole barn. It has a metal roof on purlins. Between the purlins and the roof is a white foam insulation, ~1/4" thick. I plan on insulating the interior by adding a vapor barrier at the ceiling, securing steel panels, and then blowing insulation into the attic. I'll also be adding a more free-flowing ridge vent to keep the area properly vented.
Do I need to remove the 1/4" thick white insulation that is between the purlins and the steel roofing? Is this providing any benefit? I'm concerned about moisture buildup between those surfaces as it is not a tight gap.
