Condo Re-Roofing Project Gets a "Tough as Texas" Metal Roof

The Project
“Texas tough” isn’t just a saying or a reference to the legendary independent spirit of Texans; it’s also a perfect description of the state’s climate. From massive hailstorms to extreme heat to thunderstorms with hurricane force winds, residents of Texas must make sure they are prepared for anything.

That’s why, when installer Wimberley Roofing in Wimberley, Texas, had an opportunity to bid on a re-roofing job on a pair of six-unit condominiums in Canyons Lake, they recommended metal. The new metal roof closely resembled the original clay tile roof on the 24,000 square foot structure, but offered much greater resiliency, protection, and performance as well as low maintenance.

The Challenge
The original 30-year-old concrete clay tiles on the condo units had endured a lot of harsh Texas weather and it was anyone’s guess as to how much work was going to have to be done to the deck, once the clay tiles were removed.

“It was a fun project,” said Sam Mott, owner of Wimberley Roofing. “We were humbled and happy to be offered the opportunity to complete this project. There were eight bids, and we were not the cheapest. Fortunately, our reputation and experience with these kinds of projects was enough to convince the owners that we were best suited to do the job right.”

For the project, Wimberly Roofing used 24,000 square feet of McElroy Metal’s 24-gauge Medallion-Lok standing seam panels. Medallion-Lok features a narrow 1-3/4-inch-tall standing seam that creates crisp, clean visual lines. The roof color chosen was Sherwin-Williams Fluropon PVDF Terra Cotta, similar to the color of the concrete tiles when they were originally installed.
