Ok had a customer send me this message. Now I know a bit about metal roofs, but this one has got me. I just don't know enough about Creosite or whatever.
Here it is:
"The chimney for my wood stove exits through an exterior wall and from there up the exterior of the house. A semi-circle was cut in my metal roofing to accomodate the pipe rising above the roofline. Over a number of yrs, I have had creosote damage to the metal roof. I have actually replaced a panel where the creosote had eaten a hole in the galvanized metal.. I will be replacing the roof within the next yr. Is there a finish which would resist this? My existing roof is simply galvanized metal. Would a painted panel help? Any suggestions?"
I've seen a lot of metal roofs with chimneys that were fine that I just don't know how to answer it. Anyone have any ideas?

I wonder if they need to raise the chimney?
I would think that Kynar would offer some protection.
I have seen this before but it was always on unpainted roofs. Sometimes I wonder if it is creosote or actually from condensation in some way.
