I live in Titusville FL. The shingles on my roof were nearly all blown off by hurricanes Charley, Frances and Jeanne. Does FEMA approve metal roofs? I had just replaced some of my roof several years ago from the 'Storm of the Century. My home was built in 1890 and has a steep pitch to the roof. Last time I had the roof done I could not find a contractor willing to even give me an estimate on a metal roof. I believe a metal roof would withstand hurricane winds and save money in the long run. It is also more fitting to the character of the house. I am interested in any advice on negotiating with FEMA. My home is too old to be insured in Florida.

I do not believe that FEMA has a rating or approval system for any roofing materials.
However, you might want to look for a metal roof which has passed 90 psf uplift testing. Many metal products have passed this very severe test.
