I live in so florida and unfortunatey need to replace a 10 year shingle roof post hurricane x 2. We presently have a bid for a metal roof with 26 gauge 5d. We have a 2nd layer option to lay a material on top of the plywood to provide additional water protection. Please advise if I should be asking any additonal questions to this roofer. Also, when the roof is screwed into the layer of plywood should it be screwed into the rafters. Our concern is can or will this metal roof because of improper instillation-have a risk of high winds from hurricanes lifting it off. I appreciate any advise. thank you

Generally, it is not possible to always hit the rafters so most uplift testing is done without a requirement that the rafters be hit. I would suggest getting references of jobs the contractor has done and then going to look at the roofs and even talk to the homeowners. Research and find out as much as you can about metal roofing. I will separately email you a guide to metal roofing that my company has written. In any event, whether or not the old shingles are left in place, an appropriate underlayment should be in place beneath the metal roofing.

I am not entirely sure what sort of information you're seeking. Many metal roofing products, one way or another, can be used on rounded roofs. However, some cannot. Generally, some of the shingle style products can be rounded and also many of the vertical standing seams can be custom-ordered in tapered panels. You might like to contact some manufacturers direct and discuss your plans with them.
