I am building a house located on the shoreline notorious for very strong winter wind and rain storms. The roof has a 4-12 pitch and the ridge runs parallel to the water. My builder has concerns about water being blown up into the ridge vent during these strong wind/rain storms and leaking into the house. The ceilings are all vaulted with no attic space so there is not another way that we are aware of to vent the space under the roof. Do you think this is a valid concern or is there another way to vent the roof that will eliminate this leak potential. We are also in disagreement over whether the roofing should be attached directly to the sheathing (5/8 osb) or to 2x4 strapping installed over the sheathing. Any comments on these issues would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks, Terry

Look into www.profilevent.com for the ridge ... or check with the roofing manufacturer.
Virtually all metal roofs can be installed over solid decking. Some can be installed if desired over battens instead.
Always follow manufacturer instructions. Have you selected a product and manufacturer yet?

Thanks for the info on the profilevent. It looks like it might just be the right solution. Sorry I have taken so long to respond. I've been away for a while. We are looking at two manufacturers: One is Metal Sales and the other is AEP Span. Haven't made a definite decision yet. Did notice that only one is on your list though. Definitely a standing seam, definitely not with battens. Was told to require 24 gauge or heavier for the wind load.

Metal Sales is a member of MRA. AEP is not.
One question to pose to both is whether the product you're considering meets either "standard" or "premium" requirements as set forth by the Metal Construction Association.
All Best.
