I am planning on reroofing our house and I spoke with my insurance agent who advised me that we can't get a discount if we use metal due to claims from hail damage.
What is the track record of metal as far as hail damage?

Most metal roofs have a Class IV Impact Resistance rating, the highest rating. Metal roofs are known for withstanding hail damage that leads to roof failure and leaks.
However, metal roofing may sustain indentations due to hail. Some insurance companies will not replace metal roofs that have cosmetic damage only if the homeowner opted for the available discount on their premiums.
