Can I walk any places on the steel roof, or I can walk only on places supported by the 2" X 4" underneath the section of the steel roof? My concern is on installing and removing the cover for termite fumigation. The workers are absolute difficult to find the section supported by the 2" X 4", when the steel roof was covered by the canvas. Can the un-supported section of the steel roof support the weight of the workers without damaging the roofs?

I'm also interested on whether or not a person can walk freely on a metal roof. I'm in the markey for a new roof to replace the shae roof i currently have. My house is located in Oregon with 11 large Fir trees surrounding it. Several times a year I have to go onto the roof to clean out the gutters and blow all the needles, cones and branches off the roof. Will the metal roofs withstand my walking around on them without showing any dents or wearing out prematurely?
Thanks...gary

If the roof has been properly designed, engineered, and installed, you should be able to walk on the spans. However, I cannot answer the "IF" at the start of my response.
Can you track down the roofing manufacturer and inquire with them?

First of all, one nice thing about metal is that an accumulation of pone needles probably won't hurt anything so maybe you simply won't need to clean as often.
Walkability is a function of product design and metal. Some of the more heavily formed products are very walkable as are lesser formed products produced from higher gauges. Some formed products have optional foam backers for extra rigidity.
Contact the manufacturers of the roofing products you're considering -- they will be able to tell you about the walking characteristics of their individual products.

Hi Jaime,
This website is sponsored by the Metal Roofing Alliance, a coalition of metal roofing manufacturers.
By clicking on the "manufacturers" link, you can find a list of our members and the types of products they each produce.
