I need to climb-up my metal roof (10:12 pitch)to install pump jacks. I have been told that I can screw in 2X4's at the exisitng metal roof screw locations to "build" a ladder up to the peak. Is this the correct way?

Rick,
We screw metal bands to the 2x4's and then screw them down to the deck. We usually take out screws and screw the band into an existing hole. When we take the toeboard down we then put a screw back in the same hole. It doesn't matter what your finish is-painted or galvalume, you want to be extremely careful with the finish. The metal bands can do some damage if you aren't careful, and so can your feet and tools.

Rick,
The metal bands will screw directly to the roof. 2x4's set on top of the ribs. You will need an extremely long screw to go all the way thru the 2 by, thru the gap and into the decking. I would not screw into the lap and then get on the toeboard on 10/12 pitch. I want the screw into something solid.
