I am seriously considering replacing my old asphalt roofing with an EDCO ARROWLINE ENHANCED SHAKE roof. First, is this a good quality product (for what it costs, I think it must be). Secondly, I have a one level, long, ranch type house, with an "A frame section" in the middle section. The typical late 70's look. The company suggests that I take out the power turbine attic fans on each side of the attic, to the left and to the right of the A Frame and install a ridge vent system. Can I not have the fans AND the ridge vent system?

No need for both and passive ventilation (ridge vent) is preferable of the two.
Power attic fans will actually suck the cool air out of the home below if there is not enough make up air.
Combine the facts that they use power, make the home less efficient, and are a potential fire hazard...pretty easy decision.
