I am planning a exposed fastener on plywood or OSB sheathing. I like synthetic under-layment because it can be used for up to 6 months, comes in big rolls and does not wrinkle.
Will the caps be a problem under the sheet metal?
Any other suggestions for a longer temporary roof?

Most likely not but there are underlayments (synthetic) than can be used without cap nails.
We use a Feltex product that can do down with a standard roofing nail.
