I am building a home that will have a large Photovoltaic solar system on the roof. Can we drill holes through the roof to fasten the panels to the under side o fthe roof sheathing? How do we maintain the water impermeability of the roof?
Do you have any suggestions oin a manufacturer?

There are a number of considerations. Generally each rofing manufacturer has their own detail for roof penetrations. Of concern recently is that the cells could alter the wind resistant characteristics.
Generally for our systems we recomment that the solar system manufacture work with the roof framing engineer to ensure that the roof structure is designed to support the various loads. Then we ask that they supply the mounting brackets (preferably round) such that they provide the proper clearance with the roof covering. The roof panels can then be installed and flexible rubber flashings are used to seal around the brackets. This approach will work with most metal systems. Do consider the layout of the roof sheets such that the brackets are not located on joints and centred in the sheets. Visit our web site at www.duraloc.com and see what roofing we have to offer.
