We have a building constructed approx. 8 years ago, with a Kynar coated G-90 Galv. steel sheet, snap on batten metal roof. The roof has extensive rust spots, which the manufacturer says stems from scratches or nicks due to handling or installation damage. They have therefore denied any warranty claim.
We are looking for an objective third party to identify or test the roof for coating defects, etc. Do you have any suggestions?
The two levels of coating seem useless if they can't protect against minor scratches. We have never had this happen before on any of our metal roofs, but this makes us wary of specifying them again.

RCI is the Roof Consultants Institute ... they have members throughout the country ... you can search through their website for someone near you with experience in metal.
If you wish, feel free to send photos of the rust to me and I will give you my opinion.
The coatings on steel do provide rust resistance. However, if you try hard enough, anything can be damaged.
