We recently had a contractor quoted in the local paper a saying that you can apply an acrylic latex sealant on a newly installed steel shingle roof system and that it will prevent rusting at the cuts. The sealant is said to last up to 40 years.
I am a roofing contractor, I have installed many a metal roof. But, I have never heard of any thing like this.
Fact or Fiction?
Please respond, Thank You.

Sounnds like we'd better call MythBusters.
I have been involved in manufacturing metal roof shingles for 25 years and have never heard of this, and I do not see the need for it.
