I have a house that was built in 1954. It has a long low slope with the gable end facing the street, the roof stretching on that low slope in both directions for the width of the house. Q's: 1. Can metal still be used on low slopes? 2. Does the low slope make wind presure (and lift) a bigger problem?

Most metal roof systems have been designed , tested, and proven very well for uplift pressures.
Most of the shingle style systems require a 3:12 pitch. Many standing seam panels can be used down to 2:12. Mechanically seamed standing seam can be used down to 1/4:12 pitch.

what exactly is a mechanically seamed standing seam and can it be applied on a basicly flat roof pitch and if so what is the difficulty level involved.

Mechanically seamed panels go up on the roof as individual but adjacent panels and then a crimping seamer is run down them. Can be used on roofs that are almost flat.
