Per many manufacturers, 5V requires solid decking, 29 or 26 gauge. My plan is to install 8 ft. Galvanized Steel 5V Crimp Roof Panel (looks like it Fabral, 29 GA) from Home Depot over existing shingles and use 1x4 with 24” spacing. The problem is, some building inspectors strictly follow solid decking rule: http://www.inspectionnews.net/home_inspection/roofing-system-home-inspection-commercial-inspection/20122-metal-roof-installed-1x4s.html
But, it is hard to argue that existing shingle roof has solid decking. It is not a barn with open trusses where that rule makes sense – you don’t break the panels when step on them. What is your opinion? Does existing shingle rood has a solid decking or not? Thank you
