I am currently tussling with a homeowners association over a prohibition against metal roofs written in the 50s and 60s when discolored and corrosion prone metal roofs seemed to be the norm.
A central argument is that a PVDF resin coated roof is a different animal than what existed in the 60s, just as a 12 inch DSS satellite dish is not quite what people meant in the 70s when they put a an 18 foot satellite dish in their backyard.
Does anyone know of any legal decisions on this issue, where deed restirctions or local codes were held to be enforceable? Any recommendations as to an appropriate expert to discuss the differences between metal roofs of the 60s and today's compound materials?

Generally, once a review board sees the options available in today's metal roofing, they realize that their restrictions are outdated.
Keep in mind all of the shingle and shake and tile and slate look products which are available in metal as well!
