Which finish gives better fade resistance, a Kynar/Hylar or a 3M stone coating

We manufacture from both and in fact from two types of 3M stone and they all have excellant fade resistance. It does however depend on the surrounding environment and how aggressive the atmosophere is. The paint is typically higher gloss to begin with than the stone so the stone. Also one needs to understand that the Kynar/Hylar needs to be the 500/5000 designation which means that it has a certain percentage, application thickness and ceramic pigments used in the paint.

Very high uv, high wind environment on beachfront on the Gulf of Mexico. I understand gloss might be lost in first years, but my interest is in maintaining the original color of the metal roof. In the very aggresive coastal environment that I live in would stone coated or painted surface maintain the color (notgloss) better? Thanks so much for this information

If you get a lot of wind blown sand and it is a sharp sand then it will eventually blast away at all surfaces. The paint systems do use a falling sand test to measure the resistance byt the granular coating do not. Certainly, we have many coastal installations worldwide with our granular coated products and have had no complaints agaist blowing sand.
