My insulated aluminum roof makes loud banging noises during sunny days. It is approximatel 28'x 12' and has 3" foam insulation. After two year the noise level has not abated. Is this normal? What can be done to eliminate the noise? I live in southern California.

I built 8 years ago also and put on a metal roof. The only problem I have is the creaking, popping and groaning noises from the expansion and contraction due to temperature changes. I just put in heavier and longer screws thinking that would solve the problem. I was wrong, it still creaks and groans. Really unpleasant. If you know a solution to this problem let me know. It sounds like your roof system has no allowance for expansion and contraction. There may be some structural issues prompting all of this too though.
Is the roof installed over decking or battens?

Hey Todd, I just installed a rib lock, 26 gauge galvalume over 1x4s every two feet, two inch hex screws through the ribs every other rib. Panels are a whopping 37 ft long (fun-fun) looks great but pops and groans like a retired pro linebacker's knee. more screws? or cut and lap the panels half way (frown face) :( the noise is terrifying, truly. no money for mark until i solve problem. please help or send money!
