I would like to put metal roofing over my composite roofing. The composite roofing has moss growing on it. Do I have to get rid of the moss or will covering it with metal roofing kill the moss and hence get rid of it?
Thank you.

I would clean it off as well as you can but, once you put a layer of underlayment over the old shingles and seal them off from moisture, the growth should die pretty quickly.
I would bring this question up with the manufacturer of your new roof.

We bought a fixer-upper and found that the house was added on to in the mid 70s. When they built the extention they didn't remove the old mossy roof - they just cobbled together some bracing and built the new roof over top of the old. The moss is still there to this day.

It would greatly surprise me if it was alive.
For moss to live it needs both water and a food source.
- If properly sealed, it wouldn't have water getting to it
- Being under another roof, it would use up its food source, because leaves, dirt, and branches wouldn't be able to fall onto it.
