I've been evaluating metal roof systems for a residence in Washington state. In looking at many applications I am concerned about the oil-canning or buckling that seems common. I have been unable to get a clear answer about whether this is a function of incorrent installation or whether some roofing companies have a product that has less tendency to this flaw.
If anyone can answer this question I would appreciate it!

Many things can contribute to this -- it is a pretty complex thing.
If you go to this website

You can download the Metal Construction Association's Technical Bulletin on oilcanning which does a good job of explaining oilcanning.
