I am considering a metal roof, but i am concerned of the water tightness reliability of metal vs shingles or tile. The venting system of the metal roof doesnt seem to have a way of being sealed . My present roof is asphalt shingles and vents with turbines. When hurricanes threaten or pass through the turbines can be removed and a cap seals the opening. I dont see how i can prevent water from entering the metal roof vents? Can someone enlighten me on this subject.

The building code in FL requires that ventilation accessories be tested for wind driven rain which is about 110-120 MPH. Ask to see the FL product approval on the metal roof covering and the ridge vent.
Having said that there are a number of long life vent mesh that fit the various profiles of metal roofing which do an excellant job of venting and sealing the elements out. They fit under the ridge trim and are hardly noticeable.

Thnx for reply, i have since signed a contract with a highly recommended roofer, Im having the roof vented via my soffit vents and removing the old turbines which will be replaced by a ridge vent. The roofer did state that there was a mesh, as you pointed out, that is placed under ridge cap called "ProfileVent". Having gone through several hurricanes...im still crossing my fingers.

i have Two trailors together with a metal roof built on top of the two trailors, what could be making it leak when the weather reaches below 32 degrees out side?

We are building a 4200 sq ft. house and went to Calif. to get our metal shingle roof. It was installed 1 1/2 years ago by very experienced roofers and as of to date we cannot finish our house because of 5 leaks. Everything was done correctly but still leaks. We have used several tubes of roof caulk. We wish we had NEVER heard of a metal shingle roof.

Are you working with the manufacturer to try to resolve the issues? Was the product installed on the appropriate pitch, etc?
