We currently have 1 layer of asphalt roof and have a leak coming into our garage. If we were to get a metal shingle roof installed, with underlayment, will that lock in moisture in the garage attic and start a mold problem? Do we need to fix the leak first and let it dry out before getting the metal roof installed?

The moisture does not bother me. However, if there is rotted wood, it needs to be addressed. Also, I always suggest tracking down and at least knowing the source of the leak before proceeding with a new roof. That can go a long way in making sure that you don't still have the same leak after all has been fixed.
