I help manage a few Self Storage facilities in Washington and have some issues with repainting metal rib roof. We had one site repainted less than 8 years ago and the paint has already flaked off large sections in many areas. Is this due to faulty prep/application or is repainting metal ribroofs just something that needs to happen often?

This is a tough question to answer. There are various grades and qualities of initial paint finishes.
If repainting is done, proper preparation of the roof is critical such as cleaning and primer. Also, if the original paint finish has peeled chances are a new finish will as well.
There are also various grades of paint available for refinish. An air-dry Kynar would be the top of the line.
