Do you have any idea what standards (ie metal thickness/other criteria) some insurance companies have in regards to allowing metal roof discounts. Thank you.

In the past, the only such thing I have heard of related to whether a product had passed the UL 2218 Impact Resistance Test.
There has been some recent rumors of insurance companies perhaps also discounting for roofs which have passed certain uplift (wind resistance) tests.
Individual manufacturers can tell you what testing they have passed.
Your insurance company will need to tell you what is required by any discounts they might offer.

State Farm gives substantial discounts for various hail resistant roofs in many mid-west and western states. Go to StateFarm.Com and search for roof discounts. They give a list of roofs, both metal and fiberglass that qualify for the discounts and in which states they
qualify. There is no discount for roofing materials in Florida but State Farm does give a discount for most hip roofs in this state.
