I'm having an issue with ice buildup as are several others i see. My problem is that the ice is coming off in huge chunks and it posses a great danger to patrons of our building... we have the "eves" or snow gaurds on our building but I was wondering if throwing up some rock salt on the building over the weekend would rust or otherswise damage the roof/gutters.
Thanks much

There is a very good chance that the rock salt will cause premature corrosion of the metal panels. No steel comapany that I know of would honor a perforation warranty in this situation.

I have a Dura-Bilt sunroom with a Dura-Lock aluminum roof. Are any types of ice melt salt safe on such a roof? Rock salt is sodium chloride — am I better off with magnesium chloride or calcium chloride?
