What are the differences in the standing seam roofs? Where can I find reviews of metal roofing systems? I have had ice dams and subsequent leaks into the house, house has hicks type drip edge vent & full ridge vent but it does not seem to be enough. I plan to install rafter tails and build a properly vented soffit system. I am thinking a standing seam roof should then solve the problem. Are the click lock or snap lock systems effective or is field seam needed? Will have ice and water barrier installed at least 3 feet(if not more) from drip edge and in all the valleys. Where can I get some guidance (unbiased)?

John, good questions.
There is no sort of "consumer report" available on metal roofing and it's important to remember that proper installation is equally as or even more important than product choice.
However, that said, there are a number of good things to keep in mind when evaluating products. You can find some of that information on this website.
Additionally, I have an educational website that has this type of info on it ... www.asktoddmiller.com

Fix the source issue of the ice damming first and then make your decisions about venting and re-roof selections (if necessary at all).
Ice dams are not a failure of the roof but a failure of the insulation and building envelope.
These can be fixed and you can eliminate ice dams even in the complete absence of ventilation altogether in some cases.
Feel free to email or call me to discuss.
