My home is adjacent to two horse chestnut trees. In the fall I hear the nuts falling and rolling off my current dimensional shake roof to the 1st floor roof below. I am considering a standing seam metal roof but wonder if it will look like it endured several hailstorms after a couple of years. Will a heavier gauge metal roof stand up to the impact? Standing seam will not fare as well as some of the other stone coated stone steel panel systems. They have a more broken up exterior so they have less flat areas for the strike of a projectile as well as help conceal the damage. Some of the more heavily formed and textured metal roofs, such as shake and tile and shingle profiles, will resist damage of this nature but also will mask any such damage that may occur.
