I decided to use closure strips at my eaves and ridge vent. Installed after the fact. My concern was wind blowing rain into my house at the peak an also wind blowing hot ambers up under my ridge venting. Although I know the closure strips are not fireproof
I still fill having them there is better than nothing.
But of course now my concern is re-venting the roof. I'm considering a power roof vent. But, once again, I'm concerned hot ambers could blow or get sucked into the power vent.

Power vents suck air from inside of the attic when they are running, so they wouldn't suck embers in, but then you still have a opening when it isn't running. We have been roofing for 36 years and have almost completely quit using regular power vents. It is a rare event for one to run for more than 4 or 5 years before the motor burns out. I like the principle of the power vent, I don't like having to take them apart to change a motor or to completely change the vent. On shingle roofs, it is easier to change the entire unit.

I still believe I will go with a power vent. I will get some metal screen for the underside of the power vent for an effort to catch possible embers. My roof area isn't that large to where even with the fan not operating will vent as well as 2-3 regular vent hats.
