I looking to put a 40yr Owens Corning roof on. The contractor is quoting a 15# paper. I was told by another contractor that I should use a heavier paper to go along with the quality and length of use of this roof system.
Is there any truth to which product should be used?

Sure, 30-pound felt is more durable. However, make sure you're adhering to local building codes and also make sure that you are doing something which is recommended by the roofing manufacturer.
Oh, and consider getting a METAL roof instead.
