I recently moved into a house with a flat metal roof. In the early hours of the morning I hear a series of loud bangs as the metal roof contracts. Is there anything that can be done to eliminate this noise?

I would first try to identify the manufacturer or a manufacturer od a similar type panel and ask them what they do.
Having said that, if you have a through fastened (exposed fasteners) panel, they may have overtightened the screws. You could then have the screws replaced properly which will allow for better thermal movement.
You could add some insulation to the attic which will help save on energy too.
If you have a dark colour now you could look at repainting it to a lighter colour which will move less.
