My roof is 70' long with a 4:12 pitch. What would be the best length of metal sheets to put on the roof? I am concerned about expansion and contraction and leaking.

Standard sheets of corrugated roofing come in lengths typically of 8' or possibly 10'. This is appropriate for that type of product. True standing seam roofing is installed usually with clip fasteners which allow for expansion and contraction so those panels can be full length from eave to ridge. This avoids any horizontal laps which is a nice idea.

I have more of a commerical question. I have a curved roof (approx. a 92'-6" radius) that is approx. 60' in length. The installer is trying to install the standing seam roofing in one piece. He stopped the installation because the material was starting to oil can. Would installing of this roof be better if the standing seam was installed in shorter lengths. Any suggestion would be appreciated. Thank You

Verne, If you are doing a screw down panel, you buy sheets that go from top to bottom plus the overhang you are putting on the metal. You can get sheets up to 55'. You are worried about expansion but I would be more worried about end laps if you don't use a single panel. You can seal end laps but if it is on your home, they can be unsightly. Acapo, Is the panels being run thru a machine that curves the panel before they are installed or are they trying to curve the panels on the roof. It makes a difference. Even using a radius machine you may still get a lot of oil canning but it won't be as bad.
