I am wondering what the importance of the per-punched expansion slots are on the raised seam metal roofing products? Does it really contribute to an overall better product and life expectancy of the final installed product. I am working to decide between to manufactures and one has the pre-punched slots and one does not. I do not want to waste my money on an inferior product, but also do not want to spend extra money on something that does not provide added benefit.

My experience is the pre-punched panels have been cheaper than using clips.
I only consider using the pre-punched panels for short runs of metal, maybe less than 10 foot.
You shouldn't tighten the screws all the way on the pre-punched strips but I will guarantee that some will get over tightened. This will limit movement and can cause unsightly buckling of the panels. Also there is a risk of seeing screw-head dents through the panels.
The clips on a "standard" panel will allow the panel to move and slide under the clip. This type of attachment will give you the best overall job.
