My husband and i are considering a metal roof. We currently have a new addition with 1 layer shingles and the original house with multiple layers over boards (not plywood). We are going to replace the whole house roof. My question is do you suggest removal of the shingles and if not do we need to lay boards down under the metal.
Thanks

Always adhere to local building codes.
The low weight of metal encourages its installation over existing shingles.
However, based upon the exact metal roof you choose, going over the old shingles may cause ripples or unevenness in the new roof system.
I would suggest taking pictures of the existing roof surface and emailing them to the manufacturer of the roof you choose in order to get their input.
