A not for profit I am working with has a roof with issues (poorly installed and has leaked for 15 years) and no money to fix it. Hail hit the area and damaged cars in the parking lot. They call me to inspect hoping insurance will buy the much needed roof. I inspected the roof, kynar standing seam, and found no dimples.
Two weeks later I'm out doing some pro-bono roof repair and notice the standing seams, where the hail had hit, has the finish peeling off.
#1 is this just visual damage or causation for a new roof.
#2 if new roof is in order. How do i justify with the insurance adjuster I must meet with next week and what type of verbage to explain why just painting it will not suffice...?

It is damage but really aesthetic provided that their is a proper metalic substrate under as once the protective coating is breached, then the clock starts on the substrate. Painting will restore the integrety and provided they match the colour well then there will be no aesthetic issues.
Some insuranmce policies cover this and some have aesthetic exclusions. I would suspect that the hail hitting the vertical seams probably bruised the coating and shearing it at the substrate level. It then depends on how much non visible damage there is. Sometimes it is cheaper to replace than refinish. Kynar can be post coated in the field, however to do it right is fairly expensive.

Probably what you are referring to is a coil coated Kynar system description that includes the pre treatment of the metal etc on both sides vs a post coated system.
