I am curious about the best way to cut "snaplock" panels in the field. I have watched people use fibre blades, nibblers and shears, and even a wood cutting blade turned backwards

For cutting steel panels, you should use snips, power shears, or a guillotine. This creates some "wipe" of the metallic coating over the cut edge and it also does not result in small shards of metal.
