Hi,
I have curved dormers and a barrel vault roof that that are roofed with copper. Where the copper meets the asphalt shingles the roof is leaking and rotting away. This is a huge problem and the multiple contractors haven't been able to fix it. What is the proper way to flash the copper to the underlay and then to the shingle? I have enclosed a photo/doc that may be more clear. Thanks for any help you can offer.

Intresting roof design. Looks like they did not flash correctly and may be an issue across the front of the dormer as well. This ie really a question for the asphalt shingle industry. I would suggest that the existing roof be removed, the sheathing replaced and install an ice and water shield in theses areas well up under the copper. This is self sealing and should be a good resolve. I would suggest that you look at the venting on your roof as you may have a condensation issue as well. Personally I would contact an experienced sheet metal and roofing shop where they could look to add on to the copper without disturbing it.
