I have a mobile home 2000 (32 x 76). I live in central Florida and through the past 3 Hurricanes, I sustained minor roof damage with a few minor leaks to my ceiling. My insurance company is granting me a knew roof. All the asphalt shingle roofing guys are jacking their price up to $260 a square for 25 year shingles.
I have reparied the damage to my roof. I've read that a mobile home roof is probably not strong enough to handle a doouble shingle rook. My question is since the metal type is lighter, could i have the metal installed over the shingles, or does it need to be stripped and re-felted ?

Many of today's aluminum and steel roofs can be installed over existing shingles, along with a new underlayment. This is due to the low weight and unique design of the metal products.
Contact manufacturers of products ypou like and check with them.

Aluminum roofing is as low as 40 pounds per square.
Might be wise to check with the manufacturer of your home.
Also, some of the mobile home roofs are very low pitch, even though shingles are on them. Make sure your roof pitch is adequate for the metal roof you're installing.
