Are presidential tl and GAF grand canyon considered to be equivalent? Are they both truly "tri laminated"?
Is on a better product than the other?

Yep, as you suspected, we can't help with these.
I suggest posing this question directly to the manufacturers of these products.
(Okay, really, I suggest giving up on this question and buying a metal roof!)
