Can you give me some general guidelines on selecting the metal roofing for Northern NH?
There are so many types, styles and specifics to be investigated prior to purchase and installation.
What should I look for when finding a contractor, special skills, experience, etc?

As far as a contractor, look for someone who has done several roofs with the product you choose. Go look at previous jobs they have done and talk to previous customers. If experience is limited, see if they have taken advantage of the roofing manufacturer's training program.
Ask them how they intend to handle tricky areas of your roof. If what they sya doesn't make sense, check with the manufacturer.
Make sure the contract spells out all details of the job -- underlayment, etc.

Please email me information of anything I should ask our potential contractor. We have a cottage in northen Maine that my Dad built in 1979. It has the origional shingle roof that's still in fairly good condition, but I plan to put a metal roof on top of the shingles this fall. The demensions of the cottage are 32 X 24, with a steep roof pitch. I have found some old plans that show the roof being 1088 sq. ft. (not including a small 12 x 12 additional shingled screen porch) I am trying to get the best information on the best gauge, materials, and approximate cost that would be best. We have a very limited income and have been given a reference for a independant, Insured contractor. He has given us a quote that sounds reasonable, but he said he gets the materials from the Amish, who do not advertize, therefore he has no product information available online. He is sending me a detailed quote that I will want to check to be sure he's doing everything needed to be sure the roof is installed and its warranty will be covered. He has references and has installed numerous metals roofs, but a big cncern of mine it that he said he does it ALONE... Any help or suggestions would be appreciated. Thank You, Sherry
