Hi there,
We had our screw-down metal roof replaced a year and a half ago with a standing seam metal roof. Unfortunately, we didn't do our homework, and the contractors also did not inform us, that our older skylights should be replaced along with the roof. And now, a year later, we have discovered a leak in our roof which, after 2 trips out from the original roofing company, trying to find the leak, it appears to be coming from one of our skylights. The roofing company says it's out of their hands, and we need to find a contractor to replace the skylights. Our warranty on the roof also ran out this fall... We contacted another company and were told that we will have to replace the whole (brand new) standing seam roof (on the back side of the house, where the skylights are located) in order to replace the skylight. Is that true? Are there any other options? We just spent our savings a year and half ago on the new roof! Please advise!

Typically skylights last no more than 20 years. Do you have a way to email me a photo taken of the roof / skylights from the outside? Chances are that, yes, to do it right a significant portion of the roof will have to be replaced. I am curious though whether your standing seam is a snap lock or a mechanical seam and also how the skylights were flashed. My email is [email protected]
