need advice help

I have a 90+ yr old barn in Southwest Virginia. The roof has holes and needs to be replaced..so I am told. Note..I am 65 and female but want to make the best decision to keep this in the family for the next generation...

I think I know to select a 26 gauge metal and while the current color is more like the galvalume ..I think I will get a better warranty if I go with one of the painted colors. Is this correct?

And is there is difference in metal companies? Or is all 26 gauge metal the same or so close it doesn’t matter?

And then there is the type of metal and ribs?? Concealed or not?

And please know that there are boards under the current metal..not plywood..do I need an underlayment ?

Help me make this family landmark stand for several more generations..thank u

That is a fantastic barn. Thanks for the care you are giving it. Yes, you will generally get a better warranty and better overall service from a painted product. There are two primary types of paint systems used today on metal roofs -- PVDF and SMP. PVDF is recognized as the superior system. I do recommend underlayment. Are the roof boards fitted tightly against each other or spaced? That could impact what type of metal roof panel you can use. I will email you a document that talks about fasteners, etc.
