I live in southwest Florida and just received a quote for a metal roof and the roofer wants to use 26 gauge 5v crimp "Mill Finish" metal roof system and I can't find any info on that kind of metal. Is this what galvalume none color or coated metal is? And if it is does this rust or discolor after awhile in the hot sun.

This would be galvalume steel with a clear acrylic coating. The clear acrylic coating wears away after a few years of exposure to the elements. The color will dull down some over time and eventually, yes, rust could form. This is the "entry level" end of metal roofing but it is a look that is not uncommon in Florida.

Thank you for your answer. I guess the salesmen that gave me the est. forgot to tell me about this is a low end product. So like all else its buyer beware . Because of cost I have to go with 5v crimp or so I was told. Where does a novice on metal roofs get good info or at least get headed in the right direction. Would 24 gauge galvalume with color be a place to start?

A painted (color) product will have better durability. I do have a couple of educational documents I can send you that would be helpful perhaps. Drop me an email and I will reply with them. [email protected]
