Will metal shake shingle grow algae after a couple of years

Eli, it depends a great deal upon the environment and what type of finish is on the metal shake shingle. Some areas are much more prone to airborne fungus than others. Additionally, if the roof gets dirty, that dirt can begin to support biological growth over time.

+1. In the right conditions, anything will grow fungus.
The beauty of metal is that you can wash it pretty simply and it can be maintained with just normal washing.

I live in an HOA community that requires roofs to have a Light Reflective Value of 40 (LRV) or less. Is LRV a blue used for metal roofs? How do I get an LRV for a metal roof?

Has the HOA specified a color or manufacturer? I would suspect so and if that is the case, that information should be readily available from the panel/coil manufacturer.
