Hi there. Have a home in a high snow load area where melting and snowing is common. It has a 3:12 pitch needs to have eaves troughs. The place may be vacant for part of the winter. I’m wondering if metal roofing is a good option. One thing the locals have said is snow sliding is a big issue with causing damage and danger to persons. Also with the snow curling around the edge so far to take out windows even with a 2 foot overhang. We were wondering about rakes and the different types of rakes etc

Metal roofing is a common product in your area. It's common though to use some sort of snow management on the roof to help print the snow from sliding all in one fell swoop. This usually consists of snow guards or snow fences on the roof. Also, it would be good to look at insulation and ventilation to help avoid ice dams.

Have seen 2 different types of snow guards one being a “bar” varying in lengths. The other being stand alone single “fleur de lis “ looking things. Is one better than the other?
