hi there! I am in the middle of having a metal roof installed, in NW Montana, on my personal residence (home).. As of today, the roof is dried in, with Titanium PSU-30 underlayment. The prior cedar shakes are of course removed. My contract calls for 24 gauge steel roofing, per my contractor's statement, which is signed. Today I find that the standard from the Steel company providing the roofing is 26 gauge. Obviously, with the contract, I am paying for 24 gauge. Should this be of concern to me? All input or questions (about installation/roof etc) about how to address this concern MOST appreciated!!!

My feeling is you should get a refund because of it being 26 but it still should be a good project. There probably is some increased risk of oilcanning in the panels Is the paint finish and the type of product the same as what you contracted to have installed?

yes it is all from the same company/supplier. I asked my contractor to interface with them. there seems to be some confusion. Contractor thought 24 gauge. He will ask and get back with me. Thank you for responding. I do need the support, as I am not an expert...I could scan and show the supplier's "description sheet".

Yes I believe paint finish and type of product is same. Discussed difficulty with contractor today. He still thought 24 gauge. He will discuss with supplier and get back with me. I can scan and post what was provided to me as to gauge and type of install: SL-16 Nailstrip/Snap-Loc if that would help.

It sounds to me like it is the same panel, just thinner metal. 26 gauge can still be a very good product. The paint finish is likely polyester or PVDF .... just make sure it is the same paint finish as what you expected. Make sure you have a copy of the product warranty and the installation workmanship warranty.

as 26 is standard gauge in this area and 24 would take another two weeks, special order, I gave up and asked roofer to order the 26 gauge. it will take ten days for it to get here anyway, and another 1.5 weeks to put it on from what he says. this is dragging out because roofer said 2 weeks to do entire job which is also inaccurate. I am annoyed, because I don't know if these wait times are typical. any info would be very helpful!

Like so many raw materials right now, lead times are stretching out on metals and metal products.
