After replacing a roof and several windows due to a hail storm in 2013, a 1.5” diameter hail storm last year again took out the singles but also PVC coated aluminum window trim used by a national window company to cover the foam seal around the replaced windows. (The new windows didn’t have a nailing fin.) The latest storm severely dented the aluminum trim, so I’m looking for more durable options. One contractor is offering 24G steel trim. Is 24G steel more hail resistant than coated Al? The 1.5” wide trim is only supported at the edges. I don’t know the Al coil thickness, but the window company said they liked it because it could be readily formed using a hand brake on site. Thanks in advance for your advice.

Or copy this URL: https://www.metalroofing.com/spirit/comment/25120/find/It is not unusual for aluminum coil stock to be around 0.016" thick. 24 gauge steel will be around 0.024" plus of course it is steel. That should make it more impact resistant in this case. Any supplementary bends they can put in the trim pieces, perhaps to make them more decorative, though, will also build strength into the metal.
